Connor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr are finally set to face off in a highly-anticipated bout, after their scheduled match up was cancelled in October 2022. Reports suggest that after a few minor details are sorted the fight will take place on February 3rd 2024 – but who is sanctioning the fight?
Who Is Sanctioning Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr?
Conor Benn is still in the midst of two legal battles for his failed drugs tests in 2022, which saw the fight with Chris Eubank Jr be taken away from boxing fans.
Since then Eubank has fought twice, losing to Liam Smith by TKO in January 2023 and winning the rematch by TKO in the 10th round.
Benn made his return to the ring in September, around two years after his previous bout against Chris van Heerden. Benn beat Rodoflo Orozco via Unanimous Decision in an underwhelming display, but is looking to make amends against Eubank Jr.
The duo have not finalised details, however, they may face issues in finding a commission to sanction the bout – as Benn continues his legal battle.
The British Boxing Board of Control, have been in an ongoing battle with Benn and Eubank Jr’s team have continued to push for a rearranged bout.
Benn’s promoters have reportedly been in contact with the BBBoC, in hopes they will sanction the bout – but nothing has been finalised yet.
If an agreement cannot be made between the two, then both boxers would need to obtain licences with another authority from outside the UK in order to sanction the bout or the fight cannot go ahead.
