Teenage sensation Omari Forson was named in Manchester United’s starting lineup for the first time on Saturday, with the striker making his debut in place of the injured Rasmus Hojlund.

Erik ten Hag made the surprising decision to start Forson in place of Rasmus Hojlund, with the Danish forward out of action for at least the next three matches with a muscle injury.

United have extremely limited options in attack at the minute, but Forson was selected over Antony who was forced to watch on from the bench yet again this week.

Who Is Omari Forson?

Omari Forson is the latest teenager to break into the Manchester United senior team, making his debut against Fulham on Saturday at just 19-years-old.

It was only this week when Hojlund picked up an injury that Forson first started training with the first team, but after just one week with the squad he was given his big chance.

Forson has previously appeared for United in FA Cup fixture’s off the bench, as well as one Premier League appearance where he came on to provide the assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s last gasp winner Wolves.

Primarily Forson is an attacking midfielder, but the teenager has shown ability across all positions in the going forward which could prove to be a useful trait in the coming week for an injury ridden Manchester United.

The 19-year-old began his career at Tottenham but made the move to Manchester at a young age where he climbed the ladder to make it all the way to the first team.

Forson has also represented England at various youth levels although he is still eligible to play for Ghana.

Can Omari Forson Keep His Place In The Team?

With Hojlund expected to be missing for at least three games, there is a huge opportunity for Forson to keep his spot in the first team until United’s top scorer comes back.

Ten Hag spoke before Forson’s debut about the lack of options in attack for United and justified starting the youngster against Fulham.

“He deserves that position. Lately he has performed very well, over the last half a year. He worked very hard and showed his progression against Wolves and Newport, he had an impact, for instance, for the goal of Kobbie Mainoo.

“He had link-up, runs in behind. That’s what we expect of him. He showed reliability and now he has got his chance. Now he has to take his chance.”

Manchester United face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup this week, followed by Premier League games against Manchester City, Everton and Sheffield United.

With some big games coming up for United in March, Forson could be a crucial player for ten Hag in the weeks ahead.

Although he has impressed for United during the early stages of his career, Forson is still yet to agree a new deal in Manchester despite a contract being offered.

United have reportedly offered competitive terms for Forson in a new deal but the youngster is hesitant to agree to the offer with his future at the club still very much up in the clouds.
