Andy Black is a name that will be familiar with poker and blackjack fans across the United Kingdom, Europe and North America.
Black has carved out a brilliant career for himself and is renowned for his unconventional approach to gambling which has of course, paid dividends.
These days, Black limits himself to local tournaments but he has enjoyed a number of successful years whilst on the main poker circuit.

Andy Black is a Northern Irish professional gambler who was born in Belfast on July 20th, 1965. Black currently resides in Dublin and has been playing card games since his childhood.
It wasn’t until Black was around the age of 20 that he began to take poker and blackjack more seriously, this was when he was a law student at Trinity College in the Republic of Ireland capital.
The 58-year old began to sharpen and hone his skills in the Griffin Casino, reportedly helped by the fact he could enjoy free food and coffee.

The poker career of Andy Black has seen him rub shoulders with some of the world’s finest including Mike Matusow and legend Phil Ivey.
Black’s career highlight came in 2005 where he finished 5th in the World Series of Poker main event, pocketing a cool $1.75m. He was actually leading the final table before he eventually dropped off.
All in all, Black has claimed 36 money finishes at the WSOP and has three on the World Poker Tour and five on the European Poker Tour.

According to reports, Andy Black has earned approximately $5m throughout his professional gambling career. His biggest single win was at the 2005 WSOP main event ($1.75m).
His next best came at the Aussie Millions A$10,000 Main Event in 2007 which saw him walk away with $556k. For placing 7th at the EPT Monte Carlo €10,000 Grand Final, also in 2007, Black landed a prize of $318k.
More recently, Black finished fifth in the 2023 Irish Poker Open Main Event which saw him collect $104k. Overall, ‘The Monk’ is No 1 on Ireland’s All Time Money list.
