Thiago Silva’s header in Sunday’s epic 4-4 draw between Chelsea and Manchester City means the defender joins an elite list of veteran scorers – but just who are the top five Premier League oldest goalscorers?

Premier League Oldest Goalscorers: Sheringham Tops The List At 40 Years-Old

Teddy Sheringham – 40Y 268D

Former Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Manchester United, Portsmouth and West Ham United striker Teddy Sheringham is the Premier League’s oldest goalscorer. He achieved the feat whilst playing for the Hammers in 2006, when he netted against Pompey in a 2-1 defeat on Boxing Day. Sheringham is still the only player to have scored a Premier League goal in his forties.

Dean Windass – 39Y 235D

Hull City legend Dean Windass comes in at number two after he also netted against Portsmouth to claim his place in the oldest Premier League scorers list. Windass scored an 89th minute equaliser back in November 2008 to ensure the Tigers took home a point from Fratton Park. It was Windass’ only goal in five appearances that season.

Ryan Giggs – 39Y 86D

Unsurprisingly, Manchester United and Wales legend Ryan Giggs has his place in the oldest Premier League scorers list. Giggs spent his entire playing career at Old Trafford and scored his final top-flight goal in a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers in February 2013. Giggs would later go on to manage the national side and was United’s assistant manager between 2014-16.

Thiago Silva – 39Y 51D

Thiago Silva has played every minute for Chelsea in the 2023/24 campaign and he was an unlikely scorer in the thrilling 4-4 draw with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Silva joined the Blues from PSG on a free transfer in 2020 and continues to impress for the club, despite recently turning 39-years-old. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him eclipse Sheringham’s record if he prolongs his Premier League career.

Stuart Pearce – 38Y 215D

The final of the Premier League oldest goalscorers is Stuart ‘psycho’ Pearce, who is fifth in the list. He was playing for West Ham when he scored against Southampton in a 3-2 win at the Dell in November 2000. The former left-back scored a hugely impressive 99 goals in all competitions throughout his career, with his most successful goalscoring stint coming at Nottingham Forest.
