All stats per Opta

10. Frank Le Boeuf/ Gary Speed/ Danny Ings (10/11)

Starting off this list is the trio of Frank Le Boeuf, Gary Speed, and Danny Ings. Between them they have scored 30 penalties from 33, boasting an impressive 90.9% conversion rate. The latter of the three is still competing in the Premier League, joining West Ham from Aston Villa in January.

The late Gary Speed was one of the best to ever step-up from 12 yards out and scored all seven penalties that he took for Newcastle.

9. Leighton Baines (20/22)

Next on this list is Everton defender, Leighton Baines. The former England international was known for his thunderous left foot and even scored a goal of the season contender against Newcastle in 2012.

When stepping up for a penalty the left-back chose power over placement and also converted 90.9% of the time. Baines has now turned to coaching, working with Sean Dyche at the club where he spent a decade of his career, Everton.

8. Thierry Henry (23/25)

The eighth-best penalty taker in the history of the Premier League is none other than Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry. The Frenchman has had some memorable moments from the penalty-spot, including a mix-up with Robert Pires during a penalty routine.

Henry never had a penalty saved, however two of his penalties missed the target, which is why he ranks in this position of the list.

7. Callum Wilson (12/13)

Wilson has become a household name in the Premier League, since his industrious work with Bournemouth in the Championship five years ago. He has scored 68 goals in 189 matches, so far and 12 of them have come from the penalty spot.

6. Julian Dicks (15/16)

A name that modern football fans may not have heard is Julian Dicks, however the Chelsea legend was renowned for his penalty prowess. Having a wicked left foot, the full-back scored 98.3% of his spot-kicks and it was only David Seaman who stopped his perfect record.

5. James Beattie (16/17)

Coming in with a penalty percentage of 98.3 is iconic English striker, James Beattie. Scoring over 100 Premier League goals, Beattie established himself as one of the most lethal finishers in the division and was argubaly the best penalty take over his generation.

4. Danny Murphy (18/19)

Some may know Danny Murphy through his punditry work, but the 46-year-old was once a tenacious player in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield. Set-pieces were somewhat of a strong-point for the former England international, scoring a whopping 18 penalties in his career.

He partnered this impressive record with a host of accolades during his spell at Liverpool, winning the UEFA and FA Cup within a two-year span.

3. Matthew Le Tissier (25/26)

Regarded as one of, if not, the best penalty taker to ever play the beautiful game is Southampton legend, Matt Le Tissier. Scoring 25 penalties, yes 25, during his career the Saints icon has scored the most spot-kicks in Premier League history.

His only miss came against Nottingham Forest in 1993, with Mark Crossley guessing correctly to keep Le Tissier at bay. This was only his third penalty for his boyhood club, meaning he never missed from 12-yards again in the top division.

2. Ivan Toney (10/10)

Only the second player on this list that is still playing in the top-flight is Brentford captain, Ivan Toney. The prolific goalscorer is having an incredible season so far, scoring 16 goals in the Premier League which is only bettered by Harry Kane and Erling Haaland- not bad company to be in.

Toney recently made his first appearance for his nation, coming on in England’s 2-0 victory over Ukraine and will look to break into Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad. His penalty record will keep him in good stead, as he has never missed from the spot, in any competition for the Bees.

1. Yaya Toure (11/11)

The crown for the best Premier League penalty taker falls on the head of Manchester City legend, Yaya Toure. Despite Toney never missing a penalty in the top division, he has taken one less than the Ivorian star. Meaning that the once Barcelona general, is the most clinical penalty taker to ever play in the Premier League.
