After suffering a devastating knockout loss on Saturday night against Liam Smith, the question on everyone’s lips is what should Chris Eubank Jr do next. Will there be a rematch? Will he move back up to super-middleweight? Is the fight with Conor Benn still a possibility? Could he fight Jake Paul? Could Eubank Jr maybe even retire from the sport of boxing? What Does The Future Hold For Chris Eubank Jr?
After losing a fight in the manner that he did, lots of fans are calling for Chris Eubank Jr to hang up his gloves and call it a day.
Prior to the fight on Saturday night with Liam Smith, Chris Eubank Jr was quoted saying that the fight was ‘win or bust’. Well, now that the fight is over and the Brighton man suffered a conclusive knockout defeat, there are a lot of questions surround Eubank’s future and where he can go from here.
Of course, the rematch with Liam Smith looks like it is the most likely fight out there for Eubank Jr. If not next, that fight is probably a front-runner to happen before the end of 2023 for sure.
Another potential avenue for Eubank is the possibility of fighting Conor Benn in their family grudge match. That fight was of course meant to happen back in October, but due to Benn failing a performance enhancing drugs test, the fight was cancelled.
It looks like Benn has since cleared his name and has been given the OK to fight again and resume his career this year. That is of course an option for Chris Eubank Jr.

Eubank Jr told Sky Sports in an interview in the immediate aftermath of the fight:
“He caught me with a once in a lifetime shot. I felt like I was dominating the fight before that [the knockout] happened.

“This is boxing – it’s a sexy sport. Anything can happen I never would have believed this could happen but it happened. Not a lot of people could see this happening but it did and that’s OK. It’s a part of the journey and I’ve still got a lot left so we’ll see what happens later on in the year. The rematch is a very exciting proposition for the future.”
It certainly seems like a rematch with Liam Smith is the most likely fight out there for Chris Eubank Jr next. However, whether it actually happens remains to be seen.
Eubank Jr To Retire?
In short – no. We are 99.9% sure that Chris Eubank Jr will not retire from boxing and will instead continue his career.
As we have mentioned above, there are so many different options out there still for ‘NextGen’. A fight with Conor Benn to reignite the family feud, a Jake Paul fight, the Liam Smith rematch – these are all viable options in the next 12 months for the Brighton man.
Chris Eubank Jr is far too big of a name and still has too much to give at the highest level of the sport to retire just yet.
