The Indian Premier League is the world’s most popular cricket league, with some of the sport’s biggest stars – but what is the lowest score in IPL history?

The IPL is contested by ten franchises in India, and was founded in 2007. Played from March to May every year, it has grown immensely since its inception.

The league now ranks sixth globally for average attendance across all sports leagues. In 2020, the IPL became the first sporting event broadcast live on YouTube, with other Indian sports leagues established off the back of the IPL’s success.

As of December 2022, the IPL was valued at $10.9 billion, with the 2023 final hitting 32 million viewers, a mind-blowing number for cricket streaming.

But while the IPL has become synonymous with the very best cricket stars in the world, there have been plenty of times the batting performances have struggled.

To give you an idea, we have compiled some of the lowest scores in IPL history.

Which Team Has The Lowest Score In IPL History?

There have been some incredibly low-scoring innings by teams in the IPL. The lowest IPL score ever was recorded by Royal Challengers Bangalore in April 2017.

Despite a star-studded lineup, they were bowled out for just 49 in only 9.4 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Not one batter from RCB managed a double-digit score.

Team Score Opposition Date
1 Royal Challengers Bangalore 49 Kolkata Knight Riders April 23, 2017
2 Rajasthan Royals 58 Royal Challengers Bangalore April 18, 2009
3 Rajasthan Royals 59 Royal Challengers Bangalore May 14, 2023
4 Delhi Daredevils 66 Mumbai Indians May 6, 2017
5 Delhi Daredevils 67 Kings XI Punjab April 30, 2017
6 Kolkata Knight Riders 67 Mumbai Indians May 16, 2008
7 Royal Challengers Bangalore 70 Chennai Super Kings March 23, 2019

9 Kings XI Punjab 73 Rising Pune Supergiants May 14, 2017
10 Kochi Tuskers Kerala 74 Deccan Chargers April 27, 2011

Before RCB’s lowest score in the IPL, they were actually on the winning side in the previous lowest score.

They bowled out the Rajasthan Royals for 58 in their debut IPL game in Durban in 2009.

And they would come within a single run of repeating their feat in 2023, as they again destroyed the Royals, this time bowling them out for 59.

The fourth and fifth lowest scores in IPL history belong to the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

They were bowled out for meagre scores of 66 and 67 by the Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings respectively, both in 2017.
