Wondering what belts are on the line in the Lawrence Okolie vs David Light fight this weekend in the cruiserweight division? Read on to find out all you need to know about the fight and what belt is up for grabs for Okolie vs Light.

WBO World Cruiserweight Title Up For Grabs In The Lawrence Okolie vs David Light Fight

The WBO World Cruiserweight Title is on the line this weekend as Lawrence Okolie defends his world crown against the unbeaten New Zealander, David Light.

‘The Sauce’ won his world title back in 2021 when he defeated Krzysztof Glowacki for the vacant WBO World Title. Okolie put on a boxing clinic that night, breaking the Polish fighter down round by round before stopping him in the sixth round.

The fight this weekend is set to headline at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night, with one version of the cruiserweight world titles on the line. Okolie vs Light is the star attraction, with some decent fights on the undercard to whet your appetite too.

Okolie aims to make a third successful defence of his belt, having defended it successfully twice so far. This is the first time we’ll have seen the 30-year-old in the ring since February 2022, where Okolie defeated Michal Cieslak via unanimous decision in an incredibly one-sided fight.

Elsewhere in the cruiserweight division, three other champions hold the other three recognised world crowns. Badou Jack is the WBC Champion, Arsen Goulamirian holds the WBA crown with Jai Opetaia holding the IBF Title.

Provided Okolie wins in style this weekend against his mandatory, we could see some huge unification bouts before the end of the year in the cruiserweight division. Badou Jack won the WBC World Title back in February on the Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury undercard, putting in an expolosive performance.

A unification with ‘The Ripper’ makes sense next. Similarly a fight with IBF champ, the Australian Jai Opetaia, is yet another incredible match-up. It looks like fellow British cruiserweight Chris Billam-Smith could be next in line for a WBA World Title shot as he is rumoured to be facing Arsen Goulamirian in his hometown of Bournemouth on May 27th.

For now though, this fight is an important one for Okolie. If he is to successfully defend his WBO World Cruiserweight Title for the first time in 13 months, he must be at his best. If Okolie is anywhere near his best, he should be taking care of David Light in exemplary fashion by emphatically knocking him out.
