West Ham are reportedly interested in signing former Arsenal midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, as they continue their search for a Declan Rice replacement.

The Hammers have had a steady season under David Moyes, with their Europa Conference League display distracting from their Premier League form.

Sitting in and amongst the relegation places for the majority of the campaign, the Scottish manager looked unlikely to be at the club next year.

However, after reaching the ECL semi-final, and winning the opening leg 2-1 against AZ Alkmaar, the feeling in east London is far more positive.

One player that has been pivotal in the club’s success is England star, Declan Rice, who is the subject of the biggest transfer saga.

The 24-year-old has attracted interest from a host of Premier League sides, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all keen on landing Rice’s services.

Moyes will be aware of the impending departure and has reportedly targeted Marseille midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, as the ideal replacement.

The Frenchman has been in England previously, making 82 appearances for the Gunners before moving back to France.

His time in north London came to an end due to falling out-of-favour under Mikel Arteta, with a supposed training fall-out being the catalyst in his departure.

However, since then Guendouzi has been an impressive player in Ligue 1, making 96 appearances and contributing to 29 goals.

Marseille currently sit third in the table, six points clear of Monaco in fourth. Qualifying for Champions League football may be pivotal in keeping Guendouzi at the club.

West Ham have a plethora of options, as they are reportedly interested in James Ward-Prowse, Scott McTominay and Connor Gallagher.

Ward-Prowse appears the most likely with Southampton facing imminent relegation, but with Guendouzi’s contract in France coming to an end – we may see the Frenchman back in the Premier League.
