West Ham have stunned the entirety of English football, as the Hammers beat Brighton 3-1 and go top of the Premier League.

Match Events

  • The Hammers got off to a superb start, as summer signing James Ward-Prowse scored his first goal in a West Ham shirt. The Englishman reacted to his initially blocked attempt and bundled the ball into the back of Brighton’s net.
  • Roberto De Zerbi’s side dominated possession throughout the first half, averaging over 75% for the majority of the match.
  • West Ham went into the break ahead and were good value for their lead, despite seeing next-to-none of the ball.
  • The visitors extended their lead mid-way through the second-half, as Jarrod Bowen finished off a swift counter-attack with a lovely, deft finish.
  • David Moyes’ side made it three moments later, as Michail Antonio, bulldozed his way through the Brighton defence and smashed the ball past Jason Steele.
  • The hosts pulled back a consolation goal through Pascal Gross, but it wasnt enough to mount a comeback and West Ham held on to all three points.

Is Relegation A Distant Memory For West Ham?

After a disappointing league campaign for the Hammers last year and the departure of Declan Rice, many expected the Hammers to be in and amongst the relegation places once again.

However, after signing James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus, the club are in good stead to push for a European place and maybe replicate their Europa Conference League triumph.

David Moyes’ side will face another tough test in the Premier League, as they travel to newly-promoted Luton – if the Hatters have their stadium ready by next Friday.
