Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney could soon be swapping football boots for boxing gloves after news broke that he is in talks with Misfit Boxing.
Wayne Rooney To Misfits Boxing?
Wayne Rooney’s career in management so far has been far from successful, with his latest venture coming to an end in January as Birmingham sacked the former Derby boss after just 15 games in charge.
Rooney lasted just 83 days in charge of the Championship side and with Birmingham hanging precariously above the relegation places, nine wins out of 15 simply wasn’t good enough for Rooney to stay.
Having tried his hand rather unsuccessfully at three different clubs now, Rooney could be opting for a shock career switch away from football – with a potential Misfits boxing bout on the cards.
Misfits has taken the boxing world by storm over the past year and the latest addition of Wayne Rooney for a one-off bout would certainly boost their profile even more.
Rooney is still reportedly looking for a role in management, but with his options spread thin and not many clubs interested it seems like the 38-year-old might be destined for other avenues.
The former England man has previously contacted Eddie Hearn in the past to to try and set up a fight, but it seems that Rooney may have been serious.
Rooney has experience as a boxer from his childhood when he was part of an amateur club in Liverpool. The Manchester United legend was also no stranger to getting stuck in to a fight or two on the field through his years.
With Rooney only in the early stages of discussing a deal with Misfits there is a lot that is still unknown, including who the football icon would take on in his boxing debut.
