Watch the moment Maidstone United players find out they won’t be facing Manchester City in the 5th round of the FA Cup.

Ipswich Town Vs. Maidstone United

Maidstone United pulled off the upset of the round in their FA Cup fixture against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Ipswich, who currently sit 2nd in the Championship table, are 98 league places ahead of sixth-tier Maidstone but failed to progress past their lower-league rivals.

Ipswich dominated proceedings from the offset but failed to capitalise on their command of the game after a catalogue of missed chances from Omari Hutchinson, Nathan Broadhead and Sone Aluko.

The Tractor Boys were made to pay for their lack of cutting-edge after Lamar Reynolds broke through and cooly dinked the ball over the on-rushing Christian Walton to give Maidstone the lead going into the break.

Kieran McKenna’s side continued to knock at the door and eventually made the breakthrough after Jeremy Sarmiento’s deflected strike found the bottom corner in the 56th minute.

At this point, you’d be forgiven for thinking Ipswich would go on to win the game comfortably, but The Stones had other ideas.

In the 66th minute, Sam Corne broke clear of the Town defence and calmly slotted the ball past Walton in goal to give Maidstone the lead for the second time.

McKenna made five second-half changes but they failed to affect the game and Maidstone held on to cause the biggest upset of the round.

Maidstone United’s FA Cup Draw

After their momentous victory over Ipswich in the 4th round, Maidstone were hopeful of drawing one of the Premier League big boys in the 5th round.

And with Manchester City one of the three remaining balls left in the draw, it looked as if they may get their wish.

Unfortunately for Maidstone, they drew the winners of Sheffield Wednesday Vs. Coventry and you can see how disappointed they are below.

Responding to the draw, manager George Elokobi said: “It was a draw that most of our supporters didn’t really want.

“But, in my opinion, it’s a good draw. Both clubs have history behind them and we have to make sure that when that time comes, we go again.”
