Former Barcelona and Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o has been caught in a wild altercation with a man following Brazil’s victory over South Korea.

The 41-year-old is in Qatar as a World Cup legacy ambassador and has served as the President of Cameroon’s Football Federation since December 2021.

The footage is damning for a man in his position, and the video clearly shows Eto’o inflict a considerable blow to the man’s head with his knee.

He had been taking pictures with fans outside Stadium 974 following Brazil‘s 4-1 drubbing of South Korea last night, but one man with a handheld camera approaches the ex-Inter Milan striker and appears to antagonise him almost immediately.

See the footage below.

Although it is not clear what caused Eto’o to react in such a way, it has been widely reported that the man, who is believed to be of Algerian descent, taunted him over accusations of potential match fixing.

Cameroon qualified for the Qatar World Cup at the expense of Algeria following a highly controversial, two-legged play-off back in March of this year.

The Algerian football federation lodged an appeal to world governing body FIFA in the aftermath, claiming “scandalous arbitration” during the match “distorted the result”.

It would certainly make sense for the Cameroon FA President to react as hastily and without reason as he did in the video, but there can be no excuse for the violent outburst which will almost certainly land him in hot water with the authorities.

This latest ordeal comes hot off the press after being handed a 22-month suspended prison sentence in June for a £3m tax fraud relating to unreported income between 2006 and 2009 while at Barcelona.

Following a short spell in World Cup host country Qatar, he pulled the curtain down on his career in 2019 following an illustrious career, winning the Champions League with both Barcelona and Inter Milan while making 118 appearances for his native Cameroon.
