Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic wouldn’t get anywhere near his all-time Premier League XI.

The talkSPORT pundit explained on Thursday’s show how he would favour the likes of Virgil van Dijk, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Vincent Kompany over the former Red Devils centre-back.

Gabby Agbonlahor’s Quotes

“Is Van Dijk better than Vidic? 100%. Vidic wasn’t all that, mate. John Terry or [Rio] Ferdinand the best two, then you’re talking Van Dijk, Kompany for me before Vidic,” he told host Alan Brazil.

Agbonlahor went on to explain some of his other selections: “Kyle Walker walks in at number one, the best right-back in the Premier League era. Mohamed Salah, he walks in as well. Do you agree?” he asked Brazil.

“I think John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Kyle Walker, Ashley Cole. Goalkeeper? Cech/Schmeichel,” he went on to add.

Nemanja Vidic

Nemanja Vidic was signed by Manchester United for a fee in the region of £7m in Janaury 2006 and wasted no time in becoming a fans favourite at Old Trafford. The partnership he formed with Rio Ferdinand saw the Red Devils go on to win a whole host of trophies during their years together, including five Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League in 2008 and the FIFA Club World Cup, also in 2008.

Vidic had all the attributes and characteristics that made him a huge success, not just in the red-half of Manchester, but across Europe. He was intimidating to face, strong in the tackle, had excellent positioning skills, great awareness and perhaps above all else, was very scary. His aerial ability was also second to none. The complete defender, if you like.

Social Media Reactions

Unsurprisingly, many were quick to blast Gabby Agbonlahor on X after he played down Nemanja Vidic’s abilities, thus excluding him from his all-time Premier League XI. Agbonlahor, of course, is entitled to his own opinions, as questionable as some of them have been, but to claim Vidic ‘wasn’t all that’ has certainly raised a few eyebrows.

Supporters of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, who the best UK betting sites make 31/20 favourites to beat Everton on Sunday, had the sharpest responses as they seemed to take great offence in Agbonlahor’s claims. Here’s a selection of the best replies on X and the full video:
