Arsenal and USMNT’s Matt Turner has signed for Nottingham Forest on a four year deal, as the Gunners close in on a deal for David Raya.

Matt Turner played as a backup for Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal last season, making seven appearances during a successful campaign for the Gunners.

With Arsenal pursuing Brentford’s David Raya as their new second string keeper, Turner made the decision to sign for Nottingham Forest this week where he can expect more game time than in North London.

“It feels great to be here. It’s a great challenge and a great step in my career,” Turner said.

“When I heard that there was interest to bring me here, it just felt right for my family, it felt right when my agent spoke to me about it and it feels like the right move for me right now.

“The manager and the backroom staff, everything about the club has a little sparkle to it. It’s felt right from the start and I’m happy it’s got done.”

Although he didn’t play much for Arsenal last season, Turner became the USMNT’s new number one and he was even taken to the World Cup in Qatar during the winter.

Although the USMNT failed to get past the round of 16 in Qatar, Turner conceded just one goal in the group stages after difficult matches against England, Iran and Wales.

With Arsenal closing in on a surprise deal for Brentford’s David Raya this week, Turner was expected to make a swift exit in search of more game time in the Premier League.

Turner will become Nottingham Forest’s third signing of the summer, having already brought in Torino star Ola Aina and Manchester United’s Anthony Elanga.
