The United Kingdom and Ireland have been confirmed as the host nations for Euro 2028 following Turkey’s withdrawal last week.

The five-nation combined bid from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland stood unopposed after Turkey withdrew from the process earlier this month.

Following a UEFA meeting in Switzerland this morning, the UK and Ireland were officially named as hosts and work can begin on preparing for the tournament in under five years’ time.

Turkey have instead decided to join forces with the current holders Italy, who are bidding to co-host the 2032 edition of the Euros.

Matches at Euro 2028 will be held at ten different stadiums:

  • Casement Park (Belfast) – 34,500
  • Aviva Stadium (Dublin) – 51,711
  • Etihad Stadium (Manchester) – 61,000
  • Everton’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock (Liverpool) – 52,679
  • Hampden Park (Glasgow) – 52,032
  • Principality Stadium (Cardiff) – 73,952
  • St James’ Park (Newcastle) – 52,305
  • Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London) – 62,322
  • Villa Park (Birmingham) – 52,190
  • Wembley Stadium (London) – 90,652

England manager Gareth Southgate and his side plan to reject automatic qualification for the tournament and will go through the qualifying process as normal.

The FA is keen to avoid what is currently happening to the Euro 2024 hosts Germany, who are struggling in warm-up friendlies. They want to keep a competitive nature heading into the tournament.

UEFA have reserved two ‘safety net’ berths for the host nations who do not qualify on merit. If more than two sides end up falling short, only the two with the best record will get a place.
