Twitter has been in uproar following a recent plea by Everton fans to ‘boycott’ Barclays bank following the Toffees’ recent points deduction – despite Barclays no longer being the primary sponsor of the Premier League.
Everton were handed a 10-point deduction last week, after it was revealed that the blue side of Merseyside had breached the leagues Financial Fair Play Rules.
A five-day hearing took place in October and after consideration, the Commission determined that Everton’s ‘PSR Calculation’ over the constructed three-year period saw a loss of £124.5million.
Premier League rules state that clubs need to be within the £105million area to stay in line with the required elements of FFP.
Supporters of the Toffees have been in uproar ever since and thousands of protesting posters are said to be prepared for their home clash against Manchester United.
One supporter has caused a stir online, as they ask fans to ‘boycott’ Barclays bank, even suggesting that fans move their mortgages.
This could be considered a far-fetched idea, but it has also caused confusion across the footballing world, as Barclays no longer sponsor the Premier League.
The renowned banking business sponsored the Premier League for 15 years, beginning their relationship back in 2001.
However, in 2016 it was confirmed that the two parties will end their long-term affiliation and the league no longer has a singular sponsor.

This supporter started the uproar, asking to boycott Barclays bank.
Not usually one for Everton conspiracy theories, but Barclays closed their branch by Goodison on County Road 6 years ago. Have the Premier League have been planning this all that time?

This supporter even questioned whether the recent points deduction had been in the works for a while – conspiracy theory?
Massive fan of the Boycott Barclays (@Barclays @BarclaysUK campaign. Why should any self-respecting @Everton or football fan go near a sponsor of @premierleague right now? #BoycottBarclays https://t.co/tMDflGJwba
