Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has approved Manuel Ugarte as a transfer target ahead of the summer window.

Incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly approved Manuel Ugarte as a summer transfer target for the Blues.

The report comes from football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed that the London club is in talks with Sporting and the player’s representatives.

However, Ugarte isn’t just drawing interest from the Premier League, as Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the Uruguayan.

Romano broke the news over on his Twitter account on Monday morning.

“Understand Manuel Ugarte has been approved as target also by Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino,” he tweeted.

“Chelsea are pushing in talks with club and player side, Jorge Mendes’ on it.

“PSG proposal, still valid on the table.

“No decision yet, but Chelsea will keep insisting.”

Ugarte has majorly impressed for Sporting this term, amassing 47 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The Montevideo-born midfielder joined the club from fellow Portuguese side Famalicao in August of 2021, winning one trophy since.

That came last season, when he lifted the Portuguese league cup – his first major honour in senior football.

He has also become a senior Uruguayan international since joining Sporting. Ugarte made his debut for the South American nation in September 2021 against Bolivia, racking up eight appearances for the side since.
