Victor Gyokeres would be willing to snub a move to Chelsea, as the Sporting Lisbon player sets his sights on becoming a superstar on the continent instead.
The Blues have been linked with a move for the Sporting Lisbon striker and while those reports are premature in terms of an actual approach, it is true they have interest in him long-term.
Chelsea will face a major issue when attempting to finalise a deal for the Swedish international, as Gyokeres does not have much desire to return to England any time soon.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been linked with a striker this January, as Nicolas Jackson begins his AFCON campaign and Armando Broja has failed to impress in his limited appearances.
The former Coventry City striker has an £86million release clause in his contract and the chances of a transfer anywhere this month are extremely slim.
Interest in the 25-year-old forward comes, as he continues to impress in Portugal, contributing to 18 goals in 16 league appearances (11G+7A) while also scoring three goals in five Europa League matches.
Gyokeres is hoping he eventually hits the radar of Champions League clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany, as the Swedish hitman aims to hit the heights at Real Madrid or Barcelona if he plots his career carefully.
The Swede is thought to have huge belief in becoming a prolific goalscorer at one of Europe’s top clubs, however sources say Gyokeres believes he would thrive better away from the Premier League.
It is likely he looks for his next club to be a step up from Sporting, so that the 25-year-old can properly impose himself on a big league and on the Champions League stage.
Gyokeres is contracted until 2028 but there is growing belief that he will be offered a move in the summer – despite the hefty release clause.
