Bayern Munich are still showing intrigue around a new move for Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier.
Sources believe the German club think their initial interest in Trippier’s situation has managed to turn his head, and although the signs right now suggest he will be staying at Newcastle, a seed has been planted.
Bayern were enquiring about the prospect of a short-term deal for the England defender, but in order to have any chance of making anything of the situation, they would have to put forward a strong, permanent offer to Newcastle.
Currently, Bayern are also progressing talks with Paris Saint-Germain around Nordi Mukiele, which German insiders feel has a better chance of coming through than a deal for Trippier at present.
PSG need to figure out how they restructure their squad to deal with such a moment, and any blips with that transfer would lead them back towards Newcastle – who have much to contemplate at the moment.
Recent admissions from the club that they would have to consider offers for players in order to adhere to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules seems to have opened the door for other clubs to study their entire squad as transfer targets.
Callum Wilson has been targeted for a switch to Atletico Madrid, and now Miguel Almiron looks set to join Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia after a deal was agreed.
Bayern rarely go for high-profile players unless they believe there is a chance they could sign them, and that is the case with 33-year-old Trippier.
The Germans would cause a real stir if they turned up the heat on Newcastle in the late days of this transfer window – even though the chances of a deal flies in the face of Newcastle’s public stance that they are not interested in losing him.
