Tottenham’s £40m summer signing James Maddison has been awarded the Premier League player of the month award for August. His manager Ange Postecoglou also picks up the manager of the month award in a double sweep for Spurs.
The midfielder has made a great start to his career at Spurs with 2 goals and 2 assists to his name in just 4 Premier League games. He arrived from Leicester City after their relegation to the championship. The other candidates were Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest), Jarod Bowen (West Ham), Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton) and Rodri (Manchester City).
Maddison is the first Spurs player to win the award since Harry Kane in March 2022. Kane was nominated for player of the month in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich following his transfer in the summer. He was beaten to the award by the Bayern Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface.
New Spurs manager Postecoglou has won his first manager of the month award in his first month in the Premier League. He arrived after winning the Scottish Premier League last season with Celtic. Spurs are currently in second place with 10 points. Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool) and David Moyes (West Ham) were also up for the award.
