Tottenham vs Wolves (1-2) Report: Joao Gomes Brace Ensures Wolves Complete League Double Over Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur missed an opportunity to break into the top four of the Premier League table as Spurs were handed yet another loss by Wolves in North London.

Earlier this season at Molineux, Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina struck gold in injury time to lift Wolves to a 2-1 win against Tottenham in November.

Aston Villa’s slip against Manchester United last week left the door open for Ange Postecoglou‘s men to make their presence known in the Champions League spots, but the afternoon ended in disappointment for Spurs fans.

Joao Gomes opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with his second goal for the club before Dejan Kulusevski quickly responded after the break to level the score at 1-1.

Shortly after the hour mark Gomes had his second of the day and third of his Wolves career to give the visitors a dream lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Gary O’Neil’s side resiliently saw the game out and added an impressive three points to Wolves’ seasonal tally of 35, which leaves the Black Country outfit in 11th after 25 games.

Wolves’ league position is seriously impressive given the troubles the club has experienced with Financial Fair Play restrictions over the last year which led to plenty of sales and few arrivals.

Despite this, and former manager Julen Lopetegui walking out the door three days before the start of the club’s Premier League campaign in protest over a lack of investment from the owners, Wolves have defied relegation expectations.

What Next For Tottenham & Wolves?

Tottenham will look to get back on track on Saturday, March 2 at home to Crystal Palace – with next Friday’s clash against Chelsea postponed due to the Blues’ involvement in the Carabao Cup final next weekend.

Wolves can continue their impressive momentum when they face Sheffield United at Molineux next Sunday afternoon before the cup final.
