Tottenham vs Burnley Preview

Burnley make the trip down to the English capital to take on an injury-stricken Tottenham side in the FA Cup third round on Friday evening, looking to give their loyal supporters something to cheer about amid their underwhelming league campaign.

The Clarets, currently five points adrift of top flight safety in 19th place, have already gone head-to-head with Spurs once this term, where they lost 5-2 at Turf Moor back in August despite taking an early lead. Heung-min Son netted a hat-trick that day, but fans of the Lancashire club will be delighted to hear that the South Korean won’t have a part to play in this one after linking up with his national side for the Asian Cup in Qatar.

Vincent Kompany’s side come into the tie off the back of a second successive defeat in the league, losing out 3-2 to Aston Villa in the dying minutes of the tie after a battling performance with 10-men for more than 30 minutes.

Tottenham on the other hand, bounced back from their heavy 4-2 defeat to Brighton in midweek with a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon. Son and Pape Sarr marked their departures for international duty with a goal apiece in that one, with Richarlison grabbing the other to take his tally to five goals in his last five games.

Spurs now find themselves occupying fifth place in the Premier League table, just six points behind Liverpool who sit at the summit after 20 matches.
