Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz, as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks set to leave the club this summer.

The 2022-23 season was a difficult campaign for Spurs, as they finished outside the Premier League top seven for the first time in just under a decade.

Antonio Conte’s departure had a huge impact on the north London side, as his temporary replacement, Cristian Stellini was sacked after only a month at the helm.

Ryan Mason failed to turn things and the club ended their long search for a permanent head coach by appointing Ange Postecoglou on a four-year deal.

Midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, has been rumoured with a move away from north London this summer and has attracted interest from Atletico Madrid.

The Dane’s exit has made a midfield signing a priority, meaning Spurs have targeted Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz, who has impressed during his time in the Premier League.

The Brazilian has made 151 appearances for the Villains, scoring 12 and assisting 14 goals in the process – whilst being a key member in the club’s display last season.

Unai Emery turned things around at Villa Park after Steven Gerrard was sacked due to a run of poor results. The former Arsenal manager guided the club to European football for the first time in 13 years.

Competing in Europe has made summer additions a necessity and Emery’s side have already added a host of star players to their squad.

Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby have all agreed deals to join Villa this summer and could be key in Luiz’s future.

The former Manchester City player has three-years remaining on his current contract and a deal to sign the midfielder could cost up to £50m.
