3:00pm – Clipper Stakes Heritage Handicap 1m ITV: THE GATEKEEPER @ 14/1 with BetUK

The first of Calvin’s York tips on Thursday is Charlie Johnston-trained The Gatekeeper. Calvin believes this 4-year-old gelding is the one to back with jockey William Buick given the ride in this 1-mile handicap. Calvin would have liked less pace in the race and a slightly lower draw than 13 for him, but the Betfair man is confident that William Buick will do the necessary and he is sitting on a horse with very solid claims. The horse lost momentum when being switched to make his challenge 1f out (a run would have appeared had he sat tight on the rail) and he could not quite reel in the winner, going down by half-a-length. Her French Oaks run from a midfield draw was a little underwhelming but she finished second to the Oaks winner Soul Sister here in the Musidora.
