Former cruiserweight world champion and British boxing star, Tony Bellew, believes that his Creed I co-star, Michael B. Jordan, has what it takes to be a pro boxer. Bellew worked alongside the American actor a few years ago for the movie ‘Creed’ – a spin off of the Rocky movies.

Tony Bellew: ‘Michael B. Jordan Would Eat These YouTubers’

Former WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tony Bellew has revealed that he thinks Michael B. Jordan has what it takes to be a professional boxer. The American actor filmed with Bellew for the first Creed movie a few years ago, with the scouser admitting he was surprised with how good Jordan was.

The pair will once against star alongside each other in Creed III, the latest in the film franchise that comes out at the beginning of March. At the UK premiere last night, the retired British boxing superstar claimed that Jordan has all the attributes to be a professional fighter in an interview with Virgin Radio:

“Michael B Jordan is one of the best athletes I’ve ever trained alongside,” Bellew said.

“When we were training for Creed I, we were living in Philadelphia and we were training together on a regular basis and he is such a good athlete.

“Give me six months [as his trainer] and I could easily win him a couple of fights, no problem at all. He would eat a couple of these YouTubers, no problem.

“He is such a good athlete, learns the basics of boxing and can punch. Michael could beat anyone he wants, he would just need a bit of time to adjust and learn.”

“Ultimately, I’m not sure he’d want to mess with that pretty face of his, because as everyone knows you can’t get in the water without getting wet and you can’t get in the boxing world without getting punched in the face, really and not choreographed as well.

“So, I wouldn’t advise it, but I would definitely back him if I was training him to beat a couple of guys.”

The Creed movies the story of Adonis Creed, son of legendary Apollo Creed, who was played by Carl Weathers in the original Rocky films. Sylvester Stallone played Rocky Balboa in the original Rocky films all those years ago, and acts as Adonis Creed’s trainer in the Creed movies.

In the filming for the first Creed movie back in 2015, Stallone revealed that Tony Bellew accidentally knocked Michael B. Jordan out in real life. They were filming a fight scene, with the then professional boxer going a bit too far by sending Jordan tumbling to the canvas.

Now, Jordan has been training for Creed III. Bellew will again feature in some capacity as Ricky Conlan in the movie. There is no doubt it Bellew’s mind that the American actor would make it as a good pro boxer if he had taken the sport up a few years ago.

That’s high praise from a man who twice knocked out David Haye, won a world title and fought Oleksandr Usyk. Creed 3 is out in cinemas across the UK on Friday, 3rd March. be sure not to miss it!
