Tommy Fury: ‘Nothing In His Arsenal Can Keep Me Away From Knocking Him Out’
Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury finally goes down on Sunday, February 26th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ahead of their highly anticipated super-fight, Tommy Fury has warned his American rival that he is in for a rude awakening when the pair finally meet in the centre of the ring next weekend.
Ahead of their mega-fight in the Middle East, the 23-year-old has admitted that he isn’t one bit impressed by what he has seen from Jake Paul so far. Paul vs Fury is one of the biggest boxing fights of the year, and ‘TNT’ admits he hasn’t seen one thing in Paul’s six professional fights to date that can trouble him.
In a recent interview with BoxingScene.com, the half-brother of WBC World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury said that the American “really is f****d” when the pair finally step into the ring together:
“He’s beaten a washed-up MMA fighter, a 140-pound or whatever Tyron Woodley was at welterweight. He beat an NBA star [Nate Robinson], a wrestler [Ben Askren] and another YouTuber. I think they’re the six. So, at the end of the day, I don’t reckon there’s anything to him at all. I think it’s going to be light work.
“I’ve trained for Jake Paul like I’m fighting Artur Beterbiev for all the glory. So, he really is f****d. He’s got nothing in his arsenal that can keep me, you know, away from knocking him out.”
Tommy Fury clearly oozes confidence ahead of the biggest bout of his life, but it may come as a surprise to learn that he isn’t actually the betting favourite with the bookies. Fury will be the first real professional boxer the Ohio man will have faced and thinks this will be evident on the night. Since the launch of Paul’s professional career in January 2020, he has only fought fellow celebrities and four former UFC fighters. Tommy Fury is a completely different test, albeit a novice pro too.
This is the third time a fight between Tommy Fury and Jake Paul has been signed. First time around, the Englishman had to pull out due to an injury. Second time around, FUry wasn’t granted a VISA so therefore couldn’t enter the United States where the bout was scheduled to take place.
Of course, Jake Paul saw this as an opportunity to call Fury out and try to convince the world that he didn’t really fancy the fight. However, Fury laughed off these comments and hasn’t taken any of them personally. To him, Jake Paul is just another opponent:
“I don’t really read anything into it,” the 8-0 (4 KO’s) boxer admitted to BoxingScene.com.
“It’s just business for me. Jake is just another man in the opposite corner. And he’s going to get knocked out. He’s just another opponent on my way to a world title.”
This boxing mega-bout between Fury and Paul is set to be contested at a catch-weight of 185-pounds. The fight will headline pay-per-view shows in both the UK and across the Atlantic in the USA. BT Sport Box Office will air in the UK for a price of £19.95. In the US, ESPN+ PPV have the broadcasting rights and will force customers to pay $49.99 to watch the boxing contest.
