Tiger Woods is back folks!
Yes, the most famous golfer on the planet will be having his 25th career start at the Masters this week and with five past green jackets to his name he’s already cemented himself as an Augusta legend.
The first Masters triumph for Woods was in 1997, when he recorded an incredible -18 to win his first green jacket. At the time that was the lowest score posted by a winner, beating Jack Nicklaus’ -17 in 1965.
Since that win though Jordan Spieth has also recorded -18 (2015) and Dustin Johnson bettered it still in 2020 with a -20 win.
Back to Woods and he had to wait four more years to get his second (2001) Masters title, but then added another in 2002 which made him only the third golfer to win ‘back-to-back’ Masters.
The other two players to successfully defend their titles were Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus (surprise, surprise).
Woods Last Won The Masters In 2019
Another Masters win came in 2005 for Woods and many thought that was it for Woods, in terms of winning green jackets at Augusta.
However, after returning from many injuries and some personal issues the former world number one kicked the odds into touch by winning a remarkable fifth Masters in 2019. Woods now needs just one more win to equal the six wins by Jack Nicklaus.
Since winning the Masters in 2019, Tiger’s only other PGA Tour win came in the ZOZO Championship back in 2020. So, the 82-time PGA-Tour winner would certainly need to find some old sparkle on the Augusta greens.
But, he’s done it before and being ‘Tiger Woods’ regardless of his age, limited golf and current form, he’s still going to have a fair number of Masters bets placed on him winning a sixth green jacket.
For a lot of golf bettor the head says – no chance, the heart says – it would be amazing!
At 47 years-old, Tiger is, of course, also not getting any younger but if he can turn back the clock just one more time – he’ll be the oldest Masters winner of all time.
If he can do the unthinkable he’d overtake – you guessed it – Jack Nicklaus, who currently holds the record as the oldest Masters winner (aged 46).
