Cristiano Ronaldo was axed from Manchester United following a series of controversial events. Leaving the iconic No.7 at Man United vacant and three current players are now eyeing-up the chance to claim it.
Ronaldo’s time in Manchester ended on a rather negative tone as the Portuguese star fell-out with Erik ten Hag and almost broke the internet after his interview with Piers Morgan. The club confirmed the 38-year-old’s departure days before the World Cup and Ronaldo has now joined Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
This left the iconic number seven at Manchester United has been worn by some of footballs biggest names. Legends including, David Beckham, Michael Owen, and Eric Cantona have donned the famous strip. Meaning the current players will be hoping to add their name to the star-studded list.
Jadon Sancho
The 22-year-old joined United in 2021 for £80m, following his meteoric rise in the Bundesliga. Contributing to 114 goals in 137 in all competitions, the youngster established himself as one of Europe’s best. The winger has struggled to find that level during his time in Manchester and was not selected for England’s 2022 Qatar World Cup squad.
Sancho wore the number seven during his time at Dortmund and reportedly missed out at United as Edinson Cavani beat him to it. With the Uruguyan now gone it may be time for Sancho to step up and find the form he had in Germany, all while wearing the famous number seven.

Alejandro Garnacho
Argentinian teenager Alejandro Garnacho has shocked the country with his explosive start for Manchester United. The 18-year-old starred throughout United’s FA Youth Cup victory and has worked his way into the senior squad under Erik ten Hag.
Being a fast, exciting, and tricky winger means he has all the qualities that the number seven’s of the past showed during their career. Contributing to six goals in 19 matches, Garnacho may be the next exciting talent to wear the iconic number.

Antony
Brazillian winger Antony is Manchester United’s second most expensive signing, with only Paul Pogba costing more than the £86 million that United spent on the 22-year-old. The youngster has had an inconsistent start for the Red Devils but has shown moments of quality.
The Brazil international currently wears the number 21 and wore number 11 in the Eredivisie, making him the least likely option out of the three. However he has shown a variety of skills that the United fans have not seen since the former number seven, Cristiano Ronaldo, ghosted around defenders.
