Brentford manager, Thomas Frank, has labelled star striker Ivan Toney as a ‘£100m player’, with the striker attracting interest from Chelsea.

The Bees have stunned the Premier League this season, pushing for European football despite this being their second season in England’s top division.

Leading the line for Brentford, is captain Ivan Toney. The England international has scored 20 goals in the league and has guided his side to 9th in the table.

His performances this season have caught the attention of Gareth Southgate, who gave the 27-year-old his first England cap in a 2-0 victory over Ukraine.

Establishing himself as one of the best strikers in the country, Toney has also attracted interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs. With Chelsea reportedly ready to make a move for the striker.

However, Thomas Frank has labelled the England international as a ‘£100m player’ and compared Toney to some of Europe’s elite – Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema.

The Brentford manager said: “Ivan Toney is a £100m player who can mature like a fine wine in a similar way to Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski.”

This price tag may be a stumbling block in negotiations, as the Blues are reportedly uninterested in spending £100m on a new striker.

Napoli star, Victor Osimhen, is also being monitored by Chelsea, however the Blues are reportedly unwilling to meet the ‘£130m’ price tag that the Serie A side have set.

Chelsea may need to ‘splash the cash’ if they want to sign either Toney or Osimhen, as they will not be able to offer Champions League football.

Mauricio Pochettino looks set to be appointed at the beginning of next season and after the club’s recent transfer spend, Todd Boehly may give the new coach whatever is necessary to turn things around at Stamford Bridge.
