West Ham United Boss David Moyes was full of praise and admiration for two Hammers stars who shone in the 2-0 UEFA Europa League victory over Freiburg on match day 6.

The east Londoners booked their place in the last-16 as Group A winners after they brushed aside the Bundesliga side at the London Stadium, and Moyes couldn’t help but applaud the brilliant midfield duo for their contributions.

Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus – who both joined the club in the summer from Ajax – were instrumental as Moyes’ side made it 10 consecutive home wins in European competition. In doing so, they are the fifth team in England to record the feat.

Edson Alvarez Stats Vs Freiburg

Edson Alvarez stole the show against Freiburg and his stats demonstrate just how good he was. Alvarez scored his first West Ham United goal and also laid on the assist for Mohammed Kudus to make it 1-0, and David Moyes was quick to express his delight with the performance.

“He did great. The assist for the first one was a great pass then he did a great bit of link up with Jarrod Bowen and scores a big goal so I’m really pleased for him tonight. He’s still recovering a bit with illness but I’m really pleased with the things he’s done,” Moyes said.

David Moyes On Mohammed Kudus

The second-half of West Ham United’s dynamic midfield duo is Mohammed Kudus, who we have ranked as one of the best African players in world football for 2023. Kudus has arguably been the Hammers stand out player this season and Moyes explained how vital he and Alvarez are.

“The two of them, Kudus and Alvarez have made great contributions already. Mainly Mohammed with his goals and Edson with other elements and the two will get better. They’ve both settled in really well and they’ve done a good job,” the Hammers boss said.

West Ham In The Europa League

By winning their group, West Ham United will bypass the play-off round and go straight to the last-16 of the UEFA Europa League. The likes of Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus will be vital to the Hammers’ cause if they are to go one better than they did in 2022, where they lost out to Frankfurt in the semi-finals.

Kudus in particular – who we ranked as one of the best young African’s to watch out for in 2024 – has all the skills and attributes to take himself to the very top. The Hammers can be backed at 20/1 with the best UK betting sites to win the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League and with Alvarez and Kudus in their ranks, anything is possible.
