After Raul Jimenez’s red card, Sportslens decided to look at some of the most outrageous red cards in Premier League history.
Eric Cantona v Crystal Palace – 1995
In the year the first Mortal Kombat film was released, Cantona sure had the moves to feature in that film. His horrendous kick at a Crystal Palace fan gave him a nine-month ban from football.
Steven Taylor v Aston Villa – 2005
Not quite as prominent as the Luis Suarez handball but Taylor’s attempt to try and cover this one up remains iconic. No need for VAR on that (not that there’d have been VAR in 2005 anyway).
Jimenez v Newcastle – 2023
Jimenez just absolutely flies into Sean Longstaff, it’s stupid, bizarre and probably cost his team from getting something out of the game.

Darwin Nunez v Crystal Palace – 2022
Probably the most ferocious headbutts in recent memory. On his Anfield debut, it wasn’t the the best of starts to life at Liverpool for Nunez.
Roy Keane – v Manchester United – 2005
A career ending tackle for Alfie Haaland. Not even Keane could argue about that one.
Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer v Aston Villa – 2005
The most iconic tussle between two players on the same team. Proper box office stuff down at Tyneside.
Ricardo Fuller v West Ham – 2008
It’s hard to be a good motivator and Fuller showed it here by slapping teammate and captain Andy Griffin in the face.] after they had conceded.
Cesc Fabregas v West Brom – 2015
I’m not sure this is one is worth a red card but still pretty stupid by Fabregas. He purposefully pings a ball and it hits Chris Brunt in the face. Precision.
