Strange – Marcus Rashford is NOT In The Premier League Team Of The Season

Rashford Injury Update

Since coming back from the World Cup, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has scored 10 league goals and is the talk of the town. However, strangely that’s still not good enough to make it into the Premier League team of the season at the moment.

Rashford’s Red Hot Form Not Good Enough for Premier League Team Of The Year (so far)

If you asked hundred random football fans – who is the hottest striker in the English top-flight at the moment?

You’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone that doesn’t mentioned Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils hitman has scored 14 league goals this season and has remarkably netted in 14 of United’s last 17 games in all competitions.

If you add in Rashford’s International, Cup and European goals to his league tally, then the England man is sitting on a tidy 27 total goals for the season – with 52% of these strikes coming in the Premier League.

However, this impressive haul is seemingly still not good enough for Rashford to get into the Premier League team of the year so far – according to WhoScored.

The players stat-based site has been more impressed with another United player Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder totted up a 7.4 average rating and is the only squad member from the red side of Manchester to make the team.

Do you agree? Take a look at the curent Premier League team of the year starting XI and each player’s rating below.

Newcastle and Man City the Most Represented Premier League Sides

It’s actually the other side of Manchester (City) that has the joint-most players in the Premier League team of the year so far.

Of course, no shockers to see Erling Haaland up front with his 26 league goals, while teammate Kevin De Bruyne and former colleague Joao Cancelo, who oddly still figures despite having been loaned to Bayern Munich, are in the shake-up too.

Newcastle are also represented with three players – Kieran Tripper, Joelinton and Fabian Schar, while it’s no shock to see Tottenham’s Harry Kane up top with Haaland after his 17 league goals this term.

Only One Arsenal Player Figures Too

In addition to the shock Rashford omission, it’s also slightly surprising that Arsenal only have one player – Bukayo Saka.

Yes, Saka’s inclusion is an obvious one, but some might question why other top gunners this season – like Ramsdale, Gabriel, Saliba, Martinelli and Odegaard have so far been swerved.

Good News – Rashford DOES Appear In The ‘Premier League Team Of The Week’

There could, however, be a glimmer of hope for Rashford fans.

The United striker DID make it into the ‘Premier League Team Of The Week’, with a rating of 8.77.

Rashford fired in two of the three goals that saw United beat Leicester 3-0 and in the process moved them to within five points of the top. This brace was good enough for Rashford to be included in this team of the week.

But it was Bruno Fernandes again that was the week’s top rated player at 9.88.

Maybe the Portuguese midfielder has hacked the ratings algorithm software at WhoScored?
