Both West Ham and Southampton have seen their relegation odds shift, after the Hammers came out victorious in today’s huge clash.
It was David Moyes’ side who broke the deadlock, as Nayef Aguerd rose the highest to head the ball into the back of the net. The goal was subject to an extensive VAR check, but after a grueling few minutes the Moroccan was awarded his first West Ham goal.
Southampton failed to pose any real threat for the remainder of the half and the Saints went into the break with work to do.
The second half followed the same tone as the first, with the hosts in control and defending their lead. Selles’ side huffed and puffed but it was another defeat for the side from the south coast.

Can Either Club Avoid The Drop?
Both sides came into this match occupying a place in the relegation zone, with David Moyes’ West Ham side playing two games less. Today’s result is crucial for the Hammers, as dropping into the Championship would see a host of star-players move on.
On the other hand, Ruben Selles’ Southampton look destined to go down and today’s loss showed the repeated issue – not finishing chances. Leading marksman, Che Adams’ absence clearly impacted the Saints and piled even more pressure on their remaining fixtures.
Today’s victors will be looking ahead to their next Premier League fixture, as they welcome Champions League chasing Newcastle to the London Stadium, on Wednesday. The Toon face Manchester United this afternoon and are on track to qualify for European football.
Similarly, Southampton have arguably the most difficult challenge in the league, as they take-on current Champions, Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side are in good form, scoring 17 goals in their last three matches (in all competitions).
