The richest man in Britain, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has thrown is hat into the ring to buy Manchester United – the club he’s supported since he was a boy – with the reported price tag in the region of £5bn.

Glazers Announced in November They Were Open To Offers For Manchester United

After a 17-year reign at the helm of Manchester United, the Glazer family said back in November 2022 that they were willing to hear any offers from other parties interested in buying the 13-times Premier League winners. This decision was rumoured to have been triggered by a number of supporter protests over the last 6 months, plus the downturn in form over the past few seasons.

However, in recent month’s Manchester United’s form on the pitch has improved and the Red Devils are are up to 4th in the Premier League and last Saturday came from a goal behind to beat their rivals Manchester City 2-1.

Ratcilffe’s Chemical Company INEOS Has Made a Formal Approach To United

Ratcliffe (70) has been very vocal over the years about his interest in buying Manchester United – the club he’s supported since childhood and is still an avid fan today.

The mega-buck’s billionaire also put a bid in for Chelsea after the war in Ukraine started and Roman Abramovich was sanctioned with his connections to Russian leader Vladimir Putin – pushing the London club up for sale. However, his offer of £4.25bn wasn’t accepted.

It’s reported that Manchester United is valued in the region of £5bn, which is the figure potential bidders will need to get near – with INEOS confirming they’ve put in a formal interest with the Glazers.

Other high-profile potential bidders for Manchester United in the last few months have been Apple and Saudi Arabia’s sports minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is an English Billionaire that is the CEO if INEOS Chemicals Group, which he founded in 1998.

He’s the richest man in Britain with a reported net worth of £32bn and is ranked the 18th richest man in the world.

Ratcliffe is also no stranger to delving into the world of sport club ownership – he owns French football side Nice, plus the Swiss side Lausanne, while also has the INEOS cycling team and a stake in the F1 Mercedes team.
