Sheffield United vs Liverpool Preview & Prediction
After Paul Heckingbottom was relieved of his duties following the dismal 5-0 demolition at the hands of Burnley, Chris Wilder returns to the Sheffield United dugout as they prepare to welcome Liverpool to Bramall Lane.
Wilder guided the Blades from League One to a top-half finish in the Premier League during his tenure at the club between 2016 and 2021. He has a monumental challenge ahead of him as he aims to keep Sheffield United in the top-flight.
The Blades are currently rock bottom with five points, and even an upset victory over Liverpool would only propel them up to 18th.
At the other end of the table, Liverpool are riding high in second place, two points behind leaders Arsenal. After Manchester City dropped points again at the weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s side must have their eyes on a potential title charge.
Sheffield United will find inspiration in the fact that Liverpool are winless in their last four games against newly promoted sides. However, the Reds boast a strong record against the Blades, with five consecutive Premier League victories. The last time Sheffield United tasted success in this fixture dates back to a 2003 League Cup tie.
Prediction: Sheffield United 1-3 Liverpool

Sheffield United vs Liverpool Betting Tips
- Both teams to score @ 3/4
- Darwin Nunez to score @ 7/1
- Combined Bet Builder Odds @ 13/1
Sheffield United vs Liverpool Betting Tip 1: Both teams to score @ 3/4
The significance of Alisson’s absence cannot be underestimated. When a defence is used to playing in front of someone so reliable and then that changes, anxiety ensues.
This type of defensive vulnerability was on display in Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Fulham, where Caoimhin Kelleher looked out of his depth. The Irish goalkeeper has now conceded seven goals in his last two Premier League games and is yet to prove he is good enough to play at this level.
Goals should be expected to flow at both ends for as long as Alisson remains out. The reappointment of Chris Wilder should lift the spirits at Bramall Lane too. For these reasons, backing both teams to score appeals.
Sheffield United vs Liverpool Betting Tip 2: Trent Alexander-Arnold to score @ 7/1
This might be a case of missing the wedding and attending the funeral, but a price as chunky as 7/1 for a player that has scored in back-to-back games is too good to turn down, especially against the league’s bottom-placed side.
The Englishman has been getting more shots off since moving into a central role in Klopp’s tweaked system. He’s had 14 shots in his last six games, and with his confidence through the roof right now, you’d expect them to keep mounting, particularly against a Sheffield United side that is conceding 19 shots per game (league high).
You can combine both plays as a Bet Builder at a juicy price of 13/1 with BetMGM.
