2022 Savills Chase Trends for Leopardstown Race
Use our key Savills Chase Trends to find the best winning profile of past winners. Apply these stats to the Leopardstown runners to see which horses have the best chance of winning based on history.
90% Of the Last 21 Savills Chase Winners Were Placed In The First Three Last Time
One of the main Savills Chase trends to look for is that 19 of the last 20 winners were placed in the top three last time out. This is likely to be a positive for many of the 2022 Savills Chase runners, but last year’s winner, Galvin, does fall down here having run 4th last time out at Down Royal.
Look for Savills Chase Runners Aged 8 or Younger
Horses aged 8 or younger have fared the best in the Savills Chase in recent years – winning 19 of the last 21 runnings. Again, the bulk of the main players are okay on this front, including the new favourite Conflated and last year’s winner Galvin, who are both 8 year-olds. The 2018 winner of the race Kemboy does fall down being a 10 year-old.
A Recent Run (last 8 weeks) Is Key
Fitness or a recent run isn’t always key as some horses seem to go better fresh. However, in the Savills Chase in recent years we’ve seen 17 of the last 21 winners having raced in the last 8 weeks. Royal Rendezvous falls down here, with his last run coming 245 days ago.

How Has the Savills Chase Favourite Fared?
Over the last 21 running of the Savills Chase, we’ve had 13 placed favourites and six winning market leaders – so that works out at a 29% strike-rate for winning favourites. This year the Henry De Bromhead runner A Plus Tard was set to be the favourite, but is a non-runner now. This will see the Gordon Elliott-trained Conflated as the new 2022 Savills Chase favourite.

Just 6 Of the Last 21 Savills Chase Winners Won Last Time Out
Only 6 of the last 21 Savills Chase winners won last time out but this is still a fair 29% strike-rate. While the contrasting stat to this is that 71% of the last 21 winners didn’t win their most recent outing – a positive for Galvin.
How Have Past Savills Chase Winners Done?
The last back-to-back winner of the Savills Chase was Beef Of Salmon in 2004 and 2005. Prior to that Rince Ri won the race in 1999 and 2000, while Maid Of Money did the double in 1988 and 1989. Last year’s winner Galvin will be trying to join that bunch as the latest two-time winner and A Plus Tard will be hoping to wrestle back his crown having won the race in 2020.
Trainer Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott Have Won 5 of the Last 7 Savills Chase Winners
It’s not been a bad race for the UK trainers coming over – the likes of Nicky Henderson (2013), Paul Nicholls (2012, 2009 and 2007) and Jonjo O’Neill (2008 and 2011) have all won the Savills Chase in recent years.
However, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing any UK-based entries this year in the 2022 Savills Chase, but with the powerful Irish yards of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott having won the Savills Chase 5 times between them since 2015, then anything they run has to be respected – both have several entries at this stage.
Mullins runs the 2018 winner Kemboy, plus Franco De Port, Royal Rendezous, while Elliot has the new 2022 Savills Chase favourite Conflated, plus Galvin and Fury Road in the race.
