Sandro Tonali will travel to Newcastle in order to formalise his £55million switch from AC Milan once Italy’s participation in the U21 European Championship in Romania and Georgia has ended.

Following Italy’s participation in the U21 European Championships coming to an end, Sandro Tonali will travel to Newcastle in order to formalise his move to the Magpies.

Tonali joins the Tyneside club for a reported £55million fee, having reached the Champions League semi-final with AC Milan last season.

A transfer delegation from Newcastle flew to Milan in order to reach an agreement over Tonali’s transfer, before then travelling to Romania to meet-up with the 23-year-old to discuss personal terms.

Both a fee with the club and personal terms with the player have reportedly been reached, with Tonali joining the Premier League side on a six-year deal.

Last week Tonali’s agent revealed that some loose ends needed tying to finalise the deal, however all agreements are now said to have been reached.

Tonali could’ve flown to Newcastle in order to formalise the move, however Italy do not want one of their key players departing camp during the tournament, therefore he will be allowed to travel to the United Kingdom once their participation in the tournament has concluded.

Italy are currently second in the group, and face Norway in their final group stage clash this evening, and have a strong chance of advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.

This means that Newcastle fans may have to wait slightly longer before the club can finally announce Tonali’s signing.
