San Marino scored their first goal in a competitive game since September 2021 in narrow 2-1 defeat to Denmark.
The last time San Marino scored in a competitive fixture was previously in their 7-1 loss to Poland over two years ago. That was until Alessandro Golinucci’s 61st minute equaliser against the 10th-ranked Denmark side on Tuesday night.
Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund gave Denmark the lead just before half-time with a neat finish. Golinucci’s leveller came in the second-half when he struck home from a corner. His goal sent the home team into jubilation.
The carnage that followed San Marino equalising against Denmark earlier is amazing. Pure joy.

However, San Marino’s hopes of gaining their first point in a qualifying match since 2016 came crashing down when Yussuf Poulsen put the Danes back in front, just nine minutes later.
The result sees Denmark sit just below group leaders Slovenia, with just two fixtures remaining in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. The two sides are level on 19 points but Slovenia have +1 superior goal difference, following Slovenia’a 1-0 victory against Northern Ireland. They play each other next month in what is set to be a decisive encounter in terms of securing qualification.
San Marino’s quest for a positive result goes on. They go to Kazakhstan next month before facing Finland to conclude their qualifying campaign.
