Royal Ascot Tips: Horse Racing 1-2-3 Best Bets On Tuesday 20th June 2023
2.30pm – Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1) 1m (straight) ITV
Frankie Dettori will be a popular pick to get off to a flyer in a race here on Inspiral, but Godolphin have a top record in this contest with 8 wins. In Modern Games and Native Trail they’ve got two big chances to add to that tally, with the former getting the nod.
Modern Games was a tidy winner of the Lockinge Stakes last time out and that race is also often a good guide for this with 11 of the last 21 winners having contested that Newbury even too. Of the rest, the Hannon runner, Chindit, who was 1 1/2 lengths behind Modern Games last time out.
3.05pm – Coventry Stakes (Group 2) 6f ITV
With 9 winners in the Coventry Stakes, trainer Aidan O’Brien is the main man in this Group 2 contest and the Ballydoyle maestro is taken to go close again with River Tiber.
This juvenile has hit the ground running in his opening two races – winning at Navan and Naas, plus with a Group 1 Phoenix Stakes entry later in the year this Wootton Bassett colt is clearly held in high regard and can continue his winning run.
Asadna was an easy 12 length winner on debut at Ripon in a fast time and could be anything too, while at a big price Haatem could be interesting after fluffing his lines at the start last time at Epsom but still running third.

3.40pm – King’s Stand Stakes (Group 1) 5f ITV
The consistent Highfield Princess, who stays further than this 5f, should have the race run to suit and looks the safest call after blowing away the cobwebs with a second at York last time out in the Duke Of York Clipper Stakes. She’s won 12 of her 32 career starts and has a 72% strike-rate of finishing in the top three.
Aussie raider Coolangatta can also go well in a race the Australian runners have done well in over the years, while last year’s second Twilight Calls might be getting overlooked after two poor runs this season, but the return to Ascot will suit and Ryan Moore is riding.
4.20pm – St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1) Old mile (round) ITV
The battle of the English and Irish 2000 Guineas winners here as Chaldean and Paddington lock horns. It should be a top battle, but the form line with Newmarket Guineas second Hi Royal, who was beaten further by Paddington in the Irish equivalent, suggests the O’Brien runner is the one to beat.
Royal Scotsman, who was third in the English Guineas ran no race in Ireland last time, but back on home soil can go best of the bigger-pried runners.

5.00pm – Ascot Stakes (Handicap) 2m 4f ITV
The Willie Mullins runner Bring On The Night was a close second in this race last year, but can go one better this time.
None other than Coltrane, who has improved to be rated 19lbs higher now and a leading fancy for the Ascot Gold Cup on Thursday, beat him so the form of that run is solid. This is a race Mullins has also won 4 times and twice recently with Ryan Moore, who rides again.
The Ian Williams yard have also won 2 of the last 4 renewals and Law Of The Sea can also go well, as can close Chester Cup runner-up Zoffee.
5.35pm – Wolferton Stakes (Listed) 1m 2f ITV
Trainer John Gosden has a strong hand here with the Dettori-ridden Saga for the King and also Francesco Clemente, with the last-named the one that is chanced.
This 4 year-old was a close second at Goodwood last time out in a Listed race but will be better for that after 308-days away from the track. He’s still won 3 of his 4 starts and it’s also interesting the first-time cheekpieces are on.
Draw 5 also looks a plus, with 4 of the last 7 winners of this race hailing from that stall. The Joseph O’Brien runner Buckaroo, with Oisin Murphy riding, and recent Epsom scorer Cadillac can do best of the rest.
6.10pm – Copper Horse Stakes (Handicap) 1m 6f ITV4
The Willie Mullins yard have had 8 Royal Ascot winners before coming into this year’s meeting and day one could see that tally increase. They’ve two more runners here in Absurde (Dettori) and Vauban (Moore) with the last-named and former Triumph Hurdle winner the call.
This Ricci-owned 5 year-old seems to be on a very attractive handicap mark (101) based on what he’s gone onto do over hurdles and won twice (from 4 runs) on the flat when trained in France.
Absurde was a nice winner last time over the sticks and could be anything, while Godolphin’s Ruling Dynasty bolted up at Haydock the last day and seems to be going the right way.
