Roy Keane and Graeme Souness have clashed once again during ITV’s World Cup coverage of Argentina vs Saudi Arabia over the first half penalty decision.
Argentina were awarded a penalty after just eight minutes into their opening World Cup Group C game against Saudi Arabia, which Lionel Messi slotted home.
Lionel Scaloni’s side, one of the favourites to win the tournament, were dealt a shock blow inside the first ten minutes of the second half, conceding two and going on to lose 2-1.
Argentina scored three offside goals between the 22nd and 35th minute but couldn’t find a way through and claw back against a resilient, mentally tough Saudi Arabia outfit.
At half time, English football legends from Manchester United and Liverpool, Roy Keane and Graeme Souness, bickered over the penalty decision in typical fashion between two clashing personalities.

Souness said: “He’s [Saud Abdulhamid] only interested in the Argentina player (Leandro Paredes), not the ball. He doesn’t know when it’s been kicked, he’s not looking and that is a penalty.”
Keane replied: “No, no, no. All this is doing is encouraging diving. He’s [Paredes] dragging him [Abdulhamid] down.”
Souness returned with: “Roy, you’re not listening to what Laura [Woods] said.”
In typical Roy Keane style, the former Ireland international who played at the 1994 and 2002 World Cups, answered: “I understood exactly what she said, I’m here to give my opinion and that’s not a penalty.”
Souness argued: “This is not about our opinions, this is about the laws of the game,” as Keane continued to protest and declare he was allowed to give an opinion.
The former Liverpool captain responded: “I’ve heard you say it ten times, would you like to say it again? Let someone else speak. You’ll learn a lot more if you listen rather than talk all the time.”
Unfortunately, the pair didn’t end up coming to blows in the studio but this is certainly something we can expect to happen in the future.
