Rory McIlroy makes his first start of the year as he competes in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic this week from Emirates Golf Club in the Dubai, UAE. The world number one and four-time major champion is set to make his first competitive appearance in the world of golf since November last year.
McIlroy Back In Action In Dubai
Rory McIlroy will compete in the Dubai Desert Classic this week on the DP World Tour. The Northern Irishman hasn’t featured in any professional golf tournaments since his fourth place finish at the DP World Tour Championship back in November.
The 33-year-old has won the Dubai Desert Classic twice before, back in 2009 and 2015 respectively. The four-time major champion is now going for a hat-trick of wins at the tournament as he embarks on the first round on Thursday 26th January at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, UAE.
Unsurprisingly, McIlroy is the overriding betting favourite with the best UK betting sites to win a third Dubai Desert Classic. The Hollywood native has won 14 times on the European Tour and is keen to add his fifteenth victory this week.

Having won there twice before, Emirates Golf Club is clearly a course that suits the eye of McIlroy. The unbelievable scenery in the background of each and every hole makes this event a must-watch on the DP World Tour. The event will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, but be sure to check out the best sports live streaming sites to find out other ways you can watch the golfing action unfold from Dubai this weekend.
The Dubai Desert Classic was in fact the first win of McIlroy’s career. At just 19-years-old, the Northern Irishman finished on -19 par, just one shot ahead of England’s Justin Rose. This win also took McIlroy to 16th in the Official World Golf Rankings – the highest he had been at the time.
This week in Dubai McIlroy will be going for the ‘three-peat’. As previously mentioned, the world number one is the overriding favourite with all UK online gambling sites. McIlroy is even as short as 10/3 with some bookmakers to win this week.
Only time will tell if McIlroy does indeed make a winning return this week, starting his year off with a bang on the DP World Tour. One thing is for sure, if McIlroy plays anywhere near as well as he did last season, he will win multiple golf tournaments again this year.
