Serie A giants, AS Roma, are reportedly closing in on an agreement with Chelsea over a £9m loan move for Belgian international, Romelu Lukaku.

The Italian side have been linked with Lukaku for large parts of the summer, as his future at Chelsea looks all-but over following consecutive loans to Inter Milan.

The former West Brom striker is renowned in Europe as one of the best goalscorers in recent years, scoring 121 goals in 278 Premier League appearances.

During Lukaku’s spell in England, for both Chelsea and Manchester United, his quality made Inter interested and they acquired his services on loan where he displayed inconsistent performances – contributing to 75 goals in 97 Serie A matches.

Despite contributing with several important goals for the Italian side, the 30-year-old faced a host of criticism last season – dropping an infamously poor performance in the Champions League final.

With that side, a move back to Inter has been ruled out and their fierce rivals, Roma, are keen to sign the Chelsea player on loan this summer.

The Blues have started the 2023-24 campaign well, improving drastically on their last showing in the Premier League.

Manager, Maurico Pochettino, has added a host of players to the squad, as Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi are just three of the many starts to sign.

These additions have made summer departures far more frequent and Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic have all left the club – with Lukaku set to be next.

he Belgian’s situation has been a huge transfer saga this summer and the Chelsea manager has been clear on his thoughts about the situation.

He said: “Nothing has changed. If you wishes and the club wishes to find a solution, then the club will tell me that something has changed. I am here and accepted a situation that was already done – I wasn’t able to change anything”.
