Roberto Firmino waved goodbye to Liverpool and the Premier League after spending eight years on Merseyside. It looks as though he could make a swift return following a bad spell at Al-Ahli.
Will Firmino return to Liverpool?
No. Liverpool made it clear that they didn’t want to renew his contract as they were holding out for young, attacking talent instead, with the likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo joining.
Firmino had a successful spell at Liverpool scoring 111 goals; 82 of those coming in the Premier League (most goals from a Brazilian in the Premier League). He lifted an abundance of trophies including the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
What clubs want to sign Firmino?
Fulham and Sheffield United are the two Premier League clubs that hope they can lure Firmino back to England in January.
Sheffield United will be hoping that Firmino can lift them off the bottom of the league. Chris Wilder’s influence has brought better performances from the club they still need seven points to get out of the relegation zone. Sheffield United are also the lowest scorers in the league with just 15 goals.
Fulham aren’t doing too badly considering their lost their star man Aleksander Mitrovic in the summer to Al-Hilal. Mitrovic is faring better than Firmino with 17 goals in the Saudi Pro League so far.
Fulham have been heavily relying on Raul Jimenez to provide them goals. He scored again in their 2-1 win over Arsenal. Firmino and Jimenez could prove to be a deadly partnership.
What went wrong for Firmino?
Firmino left Liverpool in the summer in hope for regular football and a new change. The lavish style of the Saudi Pro League appealed to him and he slipped the Al-Ahli jersey on.
Firmino made a great start, scoring a hattrick on the opening day of the season. Since then he hasn’t scored and is keen on a move back to England; six months after leaving
Firmino was spotted back at Anfield with another ex-Liverpool man Fabinho. They watched Liverpool’s recent game against Newcastle in which the Reds won 4-2.
