Real Madrid and France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has slammed the hectic football calendar and has claimed that the amount of games players are being forced to play is ‘leading to injuries’.

Aurelien Tchouameni of France and Real Madrid has asked for authorities to relax the amount of games players are being forced to play throughout the season, and has claimed that the overload of matches is ‘leading to injuries’ amongst his colleagues.

The 23-year-old is currently away on international duty with his country, which comes after he’s started in 10 of Real Madrid’s 11 games in all competitions this term.

Speaking ahead of France’s European Championship qualifier against the Netherlands, Tchouameni revealed that he is unhappy with the current scheduling of matches, and that players need to start taking a stand against the fixture congestion.

“Obviously, we’re playing too many matches. It’s leading to injuries. At some point, the players should do or say something,” he said in a press conference.

“These days, it’s rare to have one match a week. It’s up to the authorities and the players to bang their fists on the table.

“We get the impression that it’s not going to get any better with new competitions. Something has to be done. When it’s too much, it becomes a problem,”

The midfielder continued his rant when speaking to Dutch outlet NOS: “It’s really difficult for your body to finish the season with 70-80 games.

“If we want to play until age 38/39, it would be difficult for our body.

“We have many different competitions, and not all of them are really important.”

Tchouameni, who has started France’s last four games, is expected to be in from the off against the Netherlands on Friday evening, before likely being afforded a rest during Tuesday night’s friendly against Scotland in Lille.
