Former Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos has rejected proposals from Turkey and Saudi Arabia in favour of a return to his boyhood club Sevilla.

Following the expiry of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, Sergio Ramos has opted to return to La Liga with his boyhood club Sevilla.

The ex-Real Madrid and Spain central defender reportedly rejected big-money approaches from Turkish side Galatasaray, and Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in favour of an emotional return to his hometown.

Ramos landed in Spain earlier this afternoon in order to finalise the move and put pen-to-paper on a one year deal, and he will likely play a major role in the club’s upcoming Champions League campaign.

Sevilla’s Sporting Director Victor Orta and President Jose Castro both said that luring Ramos back to the club was ‘impossible’, however it now looks as if the 37-year-old has taken a major pay cut in order to return to Andalusia.

“It’s a very special day. Returning home is a tremendous joy. So that’s it, thanks for the reception. Now we have to do the [medical] tests and those things.” Ramos told the media.

“It would have been pointless going anywhere else, without coming back here to play first.

“I think it was a debt to my grandfather, to my father, to Sevillismo, to Puerta and many things that have meant a lot. I think it was time. We’ll leave the rest for later.”

Ramos’ career comes full-circle back to Sevilla, and he returns as the record appearance holder for his nation, and has five Champions League titles to his name.
