Real Madrid have reportedly contacted Zinedine Zidane over a return to the club, as rumours over Carlo Ancelotti’s exit start to circulate.

Los Blancos are having a disappointing season for their high standards, as they sit 11 points behind table-toppers, Barcelona. The Spanish giants look unlikely to retain their La Liga title, however their performance in Europe has been a welcomed distraction.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side dismantled a poor Chelsea team in the Champions League quarter finals and will face Manchester City in an eagerly anticipated semi-final clash.

The Italian manager has won a multitude of trophies during his second spell in Madrid, winning the La Liga and Champions League double last season.

However, with the Spanish giants’ recent form, which saw them lose 4-2 to Girona in a historic league defeat earlier this week, rumours about Zinedine Zidane returning to the club have started to surface.

The Frenchman manged 263 matches during his time at the Madrid helm, which included, 74 wins, 53 draws and 36. defeats. Winning a total of 11 trophies, averaging out to a trophy every 23.9 matches.

Given the club’s recent form, Ancelotti may be on borrowed time in Spain and with rumours over the Italian taking the reigns as manager of the Brazil national team, we may see Zidane return this year.

Brazil have been looking to appoint a new head coach after they parted ways with Tite following an underwhelming performance in the World Cup.

Ancelotti has been adamant about staying in Spain for the length of his contact, which ends in 2024  however he has acknowledged the possibility of becoming Brazil’s new head coach.

Los Blancos will be focused on their upcoming UCL tie against Manchester City, as retaining their European crown may keep Ancelotti at the helm for another season.
