Real Madrid have reportedly made David De Gea a summer target, after Belgian shot-stopper, Thibaut Courtois, faces months out with a major ACL injury.
Reports today confirmed that the former Chelsea goalkeeper will be out for the majortiy of next season, after the club found issues with Courtois’ ACL – which requires immediate surgery.
An exact return date is yet to be released, however, given the club’s desire to sign a goalkeeper, the Belgian is not expected back until the start of next year.
Real Madrid have been extremely active this summer, signing Jude Bellingham, Fran Garcia, Arda Guler and Joeslu, as Carlo Ancelotti looks to improve following a poor campaign.
Los Blancos were unable to retain their La Liga crown, as Barcelona clinched the league title and finished 11 points ahead of their fierce rivals.
Performances in the Champions League were also below par, especially after Ancelotti’s side were crowned champions in 2022.
Manchester City knocked the reigning champions out in the Champions League semi-finals, after a 5-1 aggregate victory across two-legs.
Madrid are now in pole position to sign De Gea, as the Spanish side have made immediate contact with the former Manchester United shot-stopper.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper is on the market as a free agent this summer and has attracted interest from the German side, as Thomas Tuchel is keen to add another goalkeeper to his side.
After a difficult end to his Manchester United career, De Gea was not offered an extended deal at Old Trafford and was replaced by Cameroonian shot-stopper, Andre Onana.
Signing from Atletico Madrid in 2011, De Gea made 545 appearances for the Red Devils, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Europa League, and the Community Shield three times along the way.
Since leaving the club, the former Spain number one has been linked with a variety of potential suitors including Saudi Arabia, Sevilla and now a move to Real Madrid.
As a free-agent negotiations should be simple to complete, however, the Spaniard was on a reported £350 thousand a week which may need to decrease at his next club.
