Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund insists it’s too early for him to be compared to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, but aspires to reach his level.

The Danish striker, who joined from Atalanta in the summer, has been the subject of comparisons to Haaland due to their similar names and backgrounds. However, Hojlund has expressed his admiration for Haaland and even labelled the Norwegian forward as the “world’s best striker.”

In an interview with Norwegian outlet TV2, Hojlund downplayed the comparisons, stating, “Erling is, in any case, the world’s best striker, if not the world’s best footballer. I don’t really want to be compared to him, but I hope that one day I can be like him.”

Hojlund praised Haaland’s incredible football abilities and mentioned his efforts to learn from last season’s top Premier League goalscorer. He will go up against Haaland when United host City in the upcoming Manchester derby on October 29.

Despite missing the early games of the season due to a back injury, Hojlund has been making his mark at Manchester United in recent weeks. While he is yet to score in the Premier League, he has netted three goals in the Champions League and has been praised for his physicality and hold-up play.

When asked about his potential, Hojlund modestly explained that he takes it one day at a time and strives to improve all the time, embracing the expectations placed on him.

In contrast, Haaland, who had an exceptional debut season in England with Manchester City, is widely recognised as one of the top strikers in the world. The Norwegian scored a record-breaking 36 league goals and 52 goals in all competitions.

Hojlund’s journey at Manchester United is just beginning, and while he acknowledges the comparisons to Haaland, he is determined to carve his own path and reach the heights set by his Norwegian counterpart.
