CLOVIS BOY (system – 3m+ handicap hurdles, won last time out, speed angle)
Last time out winners who recorded a Proform speed figure of at least 67 have a fine record when contesting handicap hurdles over a distance of 3m or further, landing 128 of their 467 starts (27.4%) since the beginning of 2012 for a profit of £137.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. The Lucinda Russell-trained CLOVIS BOY win a 2m4f handicap hurdle in a fast time at Hexham last month and that form was franked when the runner-up went one better next time. The four-year-old looks to be crying out for today’s step up in trip and handles this track well enough when an 18-1 fourth last season. KNACKER TRAPPER is open to improvement on his handicap debut and is worth a saver.
CHEPSTOW 1.40
TANGANYIKA (system – Venetia Williams, December handicapper, recent run)
Since the beginning of 2012, Venetia Williams is 69 from 288 with her December handicap runners (hurdlers or chasers) who had raced within the past four weeks and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £83.75 to a £1 level stake at SP. TANGANYIKA showed a willing attitude to score at Bangor last time and can follow up with the forecast rain in his favour.
CHEPSTOW 2.50
WAYFINDER (system – Chepstow Chase, ran in another Chepstow chase last time)
Course experience can be vital over fences at Chepstow and, since racing resumed after lockdown in June 2020, simply backing any horses in a Chepstow chase, who prepped over fences at the Welsh venue, would have found 25 winners from 95 bets for a profit of £51.23. WAYFINDER found only Nassalam too good in the Welsh National Trial here earlier this month and can reverse the form over today’s longer trip.
